Roopkund Trek With India Hikes - Day 6

View Roopkund Trek With India Hikes Day 6

After an amazing summit day to Roopkund it was time to return to the base camp in Lohajung. It was a day with mixed feelings of sadness and joy. Sad because today was the last day of trekking. Happy because we can finally take a bath.

Trek Down

The return trek was actually quite long. Though going downhill is easy and fast, the distance we covered in 3 days was to be covered in a day now. The trek was mostly easy except for some slippery shortcuts that we took. There were records being broken on the number of falls. The route we were taking now was different from the one we took while coming up. However going downhill was hard on the knees. Our assistant Trek Lead was trying his best to make us go via the trail and not take shortcuts. But we were taking them nevertheless. It was exhilarating to be running down a mountain . But towards the end it got tiring . It was a never ending mountain!

Towards the end we could see houses and there were a lot of kids greeting us on the way. I realized later that they were expecting chocolates from us.

Stopovers

We stopped at two shops while returning and had Omelette, Tea, Maggi. The omelette tasted nothing compared to what I am used to. Not sure if it was because of the altitude though. However it still tasted great because of the tiring days and long abstinence from non veg food. We also had lunch packed with us, that we had sitting beside a serene stream.

The photo above is of our Guide Mohan Singh Bist, whom we called "Chacha".

Civilization

Finally we reached civilization. We took a vehicle from there and reached the base camp at Lohajung. We were rather early and had plenty of time to relax.

Lohajung - Base Camp

The same place where on the first day I was wearing all my warm cloths, now it seemed not that cold. One jacket was sufficient now. We got our rooms and soon realized that the geysers were not working. One room had a working geyser but it was extremely slow in heating. Not having bathed for 6 days now, it felt amazing to take a bath.

Next up was the certificate distribution. We all got a certificate for completing the trek. Everyone got a chance to speak about their experience.

We had dinner and went to sleep in our amazing warm cozy beds. The next day was torturous as we had to travel to Kathgodam.

There was this cute kid, the son of the owner of the building which Indiahikes had rented. He was very happy to pose for photographs.
